GVI supported the US Army PM Bridging and Force Projection Team that developed a unique software and hardware IUID legacy marking process solution for PM Force Projection that could be adaptable to almost any situations. The team was assembled in January 2010 and recently earned the IUID Team Excellence Award for their efforts.

The goal was to use this solution with a well-defined process and empower teams that are already fielding equipment or in remote sites to mark equipment and do data capture. Because the software is web based, a link to the web via a 3G network must be maintained. This signal could be lost, especially when marking vessels below decks. An upgrade is being developed to allow the software to store data when the link is lost and then pass on the data once the communication link is reestablished.

The hardware solution had to be portable and usable in a wide variety of situations. The team worked to develop and test the key components of this marking kit. Ultimately they were able to identify and correct process problems and capture nearly $100 million dollars’ worth of equipment.

Taken from the IUID Team Excellence Award:  “For their demonstrated leadership and commitment to progressing IUID by incorporating Lean Six Sigma, the US Army PM Bridging and PM Force Projection Team is the recipient of the IUID Team Excellence Award.”
